Thinking about pursuing a career in international development? This internship is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of how development projects are run by international organisations in local contexts. Learn how ethical principles and best practices are implemented when establishing and operating projects in the field. Work with GVI staff to conduct surveys of local communities, collaborate with local partners, measure the ability of ongoing projects to meet set objectives, and lead a volunteer team.
Contribute directly to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #3 Health and Well-Being, #4, Quality Education, and #5, Gender Equality, and indirectly to some of the other 17 official goals. Deliver preventative health workshops, help children achieve development goals, help young students and adults improve their literacy and numeracy skills, and facilitate professional development workshops for women.
On the weekends and in the evenings, explore the surrounding area of Pokhara, visiting Hindu and Buddist temples, learning about Nepali spiritual traditions, and sample the local cuisine like dal bhat, lentil curry, and momos, a type of dumpling. You can also book a trek through the Himalayas either before or after you have completed your internship.
