Human Rights and Access to Justice

Includes courses in partnership
with the University of Richmond

Overview

Did you know that access to justice is a fundamental human right? Yet, millions of people worldwide don’t receive fair access to basic legal services. Globally, there are over 240 million children exploited for labour, while laws in over 20 countries still challenge women’s access to quality reproductive care. Join GVIs Human Rights and Access to Justice Virtual Internship to gain insight into the development of global judicial systems. Alongside accomplished experts and partner organisations, you’ll develop industry skills and an understanding of the challenges faced in human rights advocacy work.

Project work

Throughout your internship you’ll be completing one project each week that helps a local organisation solve an actual problem. Since we work with real partners, real, valuable projects will be assigned to you. This means that the types of projects you could work on will vary. We aim to match you as closely as possible with an organisation and a task that aligns with your personal career goals. See below for some of the projects you could work on during your internship.

Grant award research and application

Research and prepare an application for the Ginetta Sagan Award. This grant recognises and assists women who are working to protect the liberty and lives of women and children in areas where human rights violations are widespread.

Plan and implement a branding strategy for a human rights organisation

Develop website and social media content for a human rights organisation, and assisting them in increasing their reach and raising awareness of the important work they do.
